Villages Zemo Nikozi, Kvemo Nikozi and Zemo Khviti are located no farther than one kilometer’s distance from Tskhinvali. In 2015 we established the first rock climbers club (named Nikozi Rock Climbers Club) in the village of Zemo Nikozi, which is one of the most successful in youth competitions’ results today. We have both champions of Georgia and prizes. Our present climbing wall is set in the open air and during the winter period it is almost impossible to conduct exercises and as a result the children suspend their exercises for 3-4 months each year. Therefore, the development of our young athletes and their sports progress remains an unfulfilled task. Following multiple requests, the City Hall of Gori expressed its readiness and promised us to hand over for a training hall one building in Kvemo Nikozi, which needs an overhaul (for ex: plastering the walls, laying the floor, inserting windows and arranging new climbing walls). It is worth noting the fact that today 30 teenagers are enrolled in our club, and if there was a climbing hall, this number would at least double. The exercises would no longer be interrupted by unfavorable weather conditions. I would like to mention that Nikozi Rock Climbers Club serves all school children free of charge. It has been already 5 years, that these children have been dreaming of a small training hall and a 15-meters’ climbing wall. It is unfortunate that such a politically difficult region, which needs the intensified attention of both the state and the business sector, has been forgotten by everyone. Although, it is these children – the children of war, who protect the boundless borders today! The „borders“ which Russian occupiers drew with barbed wire on the Georgian land. The success of these children is the success of our country, and their support is everyone’s responsibility.
