Barbale – Want a Ride?
Campaign Story
Who we are:
We are a team of three female coders who want to use our skills and networks to support other women.
How we started:
We created a rideshare Facebook group called ‘Let’s go Women’ in order to connect women who are looking for rides with those who can offer rides and are looking for passengers. Hundreds of women joined the group and are using the space to connect and travel. Unfortunately, a Facebook group is an inconvenient platform for searching for destinations, passengers, drivers, and is time-consuming. Especially as the group expands, these issues will become even more difficult. That’s why we decided to create an app in order to make it easier to connect.
What is Barbale?
Barbale is a free app to help women with cars offer rideshares, as well as share their experiences and make friends.
Why are we doing it?
We want to create a safe space for women free from restrictions and stereotypes, make travel easy for women, encourage each other, and share positive vibes. Why should you travel alone when you can share the ride with interesting people, and possibly make friends?
Who are the users?
Women and people non-conforming to a gender.
How does it work?
A driver will post a comment on her destination and will offer a free ride (or a paid ride for a minimal fee) to one or more passengers. A passenger who is looking for a ride will see options of drivers offering a ride and can bid for the offer. If the driver approves the bid, both the driver and the passenger go on the ride. Both passenger and driver can rate each other, the experience, write recommendations or say thank you for the companionship. A user can check if the other person is real by verifying her mobile number, Facebook profile, or ID. Users choose themselves what kind of information they want to share about themselves.
